CIMCIGS launch new website
CIMCIGS are delighted to launch their new website in April 2010.
The new layout provides the ability to apply for membership online, access and book a space at forthcoming networking and CPD events as well as access to our virtual networking forum on LinkedIn.
It also includes a library of information relevant to those involved in marketing and business development in the construction industry in Scotland. The website has been designed by Farmore IT, a Scottish based design company.
We welcome your feedback on any aspect of our new website as it is important that our users find it welcoming and easy to navigate.
Professional Update Seminars
The CIMCIGS professional update seminars continued in March with a briefing from the Scottish Futures Trust (SFT).
The SFT will play a crucial role in the procurement of a range of projects in Scotland including the new schools investment programme and the hub programme.
This seminar provided CIMCIGS members and their guests a great opportunity to hear about the SFT’s role in the procurement of significant infrastructure projects.
Colin joined SFT in December 2009 as Accommodation Director. Colin is a chartered surveyor and most recently was a Partner in a large international construction consultancy practice. He has over 20 years experience of working in the construction and property development market, advising on major projects and programmes across the UK and Ireland in a wide range of sectors.
Claire joined SFT in October 2009 as associate director in the accommodation team with a current focus on hub delivery. Previously she was a lawyer with Shepherd and Wedderburn LLP specialising in public procurement and projects across a range of sectors.

Gail is business development manager for Clark Contracts where her principal focus is on identifying new business opportunities, management of the marketing department and group business development.

Committee Member: Bill Tait, Clansman Interiors
Bill has been Sales Manager at Clansman Interiors Ltd for the past four and a half years. His remit is to develop the sales and marketing of this well known and established Interiors Refurbishment and Fit-Out Contractor. Bill’s previous positions were 10 years with SAS International and 3 years with Burgess Architectural Products as their Technical Specification Sales Manager for their various suspended metal ceiling systems.

Profit from Sustainability seminar 22nd June 2010
This seminar will look at how to employ sustainable design, not only to comply with regulations and best practice, but to make assets more profitable for the developer and investors.

Speaker: Dr Serge Younes, WSP
The talk will present the scale of opportunities in the UK for developer, asset owners (property and land) and investors for on-site renewable energy generation in the UK, looking in particular at the idea of the solar roofs concept developed by WSP and currently being deployed across Europe in the context of financial returns on renewable development, earnings from land or roof rents and potential CRC mitigation.

The talk will provide a brief summary of Designing Streets, a key new policy and guidance document that is due to be launched this Spring by the Scottish Government, developed by a team of consultants, led by WSP. Keith will emphasise the key benefits of the new approaches to street design for the development sector and how they take forward wider sustainability and health agendas. This will include landtake, potential savings in infrastructure investment and integrated approaches to SUDS

Patrick is a planning consultant with international property consultancy practice Savills working within their Glasgow office. Patrick has experience of a broad range of planning instructions throughout Scotland including residential, commercial and renewable energy projects. He is a licentiate member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and an associate member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.
